SAAB J29A  Tunnan

                                    

                                        The grainy Saab image above gives a good general view of this chubby fighter, while the somewhat
                                        better shot below shows the plan to better advantage.    In fact, the craft was aptly dubbed "Tunnan"
                                        meaning "the Barrel".  Ugly though it may have been on the ground, it was an excellent fighter in the
                                        air, and the production run of 661 of them remains Saabs longest production run to date.   Although
                                        retired in the mid 1960s, some were used on target towing missions well into the 1970s.
