                                         This was the former PP-AVJ    In 1965 VARIG bought this former REAL/Aerovias Brasil
                                         aircraft back and registered it PP-VDM.   The above shot, via Martin Bernsmuller, was
                                         taken at Itaituba, Para, in August 1971. .  The aircraft had a special internal configuration
                                         (executive) with only 16 seats.  It operated many special flights with VARIG guests, but
                                         also was  used on regular schedules (with the special configuration).  As PP-VDM it had
                                         a period in storage at Manaus in the 1980s, and then this old DC-3 was saved from the
                                         scrapyard as a static display.    It now reposes in a city square in Carajas in the state of
                                         Para..  I am indebted to Lineu Carneiro Saraiva  for the contemporary image of it below.
