                                                 Helicopters were very much in vogue in the 1950s.  They were considered the answer to intra-
                                                 city commuter services.  They all went under.  What happened?  I understand that the operating
                                                 economics just were not there.  That plus the fact that safety issues caused substantial haranguing
                                                 from the CAB (in conducting  operations over heavily built up areas such as Manhattan and the
                                                 L.A. Basin).   The majority of the helicopter experiments was carried out in the big four cities of
                                                 New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, but there were exceptions.  One such was
                                                 the service provided by Mohawk in 1954 from Newark Airport to the Catskill Mountain resorts. 
                                                 A couple of S-55s was used on the short lived operation.
