G-AUFM  de Havilland D.H.9c                           (c/n  QANTAS )

This D.H.9 was built by Qantas at Longreach circa 1926-27 with D.H.50 mainplanes and with
the pilot behind the cabin.  Named 'Ion', its Certificate of Registration was allocated in February
of 1927.  DCA's register stated its c/n merely as 'Qantas'.  It crashed at Camoweal in January of
1928 and is seen at that site in the rare photo above from the Frank Walters collection (via Geoff
Goodall).  It was broken up for parts a year later.
