VH-WBI  Piper PA-24-260 Comanche B                     (c/n  24-4778)

Unlike Beechcraft, Piper, when they imported aircraft did not use ferry registrations, but
used regular in sequence US registrations.   David Carter saw it at Sydney Airport in 1969
(below) as N9277P.  It became VH-WBI and was bought by Alkira Aero Group.
Geoff Goodall photographed it at  Jandakot, Perth on 11 April 1970 visiting from Sydney.
Unfortunately this Comanche had a very short life in Australia.  It crashed two weeks after
the above photo was taken while landing at Tierawoomba, Qld on 25 April 1970.
The aircraft overshot the strip and hit the bank of a gully, killing the pilot and seriously
                                         injuring the four passengers
