VH-PYU    Piper PA-24-400 Comanche                           (c/n  26-131)

                                    

                                          Ferried to Australia as N8596P, VH-PYU ws registered to Ansett General Aviation at
                                          Bankstown in June 1966  . It was soon after sold to Jim Hubbard, of Wee Waa, NSW,
                                          who used to it in his work with the cotton industry.    David Carter’s photo above was
                                          taken at Bankstown on June 12, 1971       Comanches were relatively rare in Australia
                                          and the 400 hp model was a bit of a handful for inexperienced private pilots and expen-
                                          sive to operate.  In fact, only 148 were built   . –PYU spent long periods off the register
                                          as withdrawn from use, from October 1975 to August 1979 then from October 1981 to
                                          June 1987.  In January 2017 it was owned by a winemaker who kept it at Corowa, NSW.
