VH-EBF Boeing
707-138
(c/n 17701)

As indicated in the narrative for the Lockheed Electra, my own Australian aircraft
collection does
not really extend into the Boeing 707 era. The above shot, taken
at London's Heathrow by Jennifer
Gradidge, shows a Qantas 707 in
1959, advertising the fortieth anniversary the airline. I acquired
it from Jennifer ostensibly to
illustrate a book I was working on. Greg
Banfield's photo (below)
illustrates -EBF in
the then standard V-Jet livery of the day, having been taken at
Mascot in July
1964. VH-EBF was sold back
in the US to aircraft broker FB Ayers and Associates in 1968
becoming
N792SA. It was
leased to a German air charter company (Air Commerz) as D-ADAQ,
and then saw service
in Turkey
as TC-JBP. It was eventually scrapped
at the Pinal Airpark at
Marana, Arizona after
returning to the US as N792FA
(Possibly 792SA was no longer available
at that point in time,
although it
seems unlikely). Anyway, the shot of it at the foot of the entry
in its
'final resting
place' was taken by Peter Gates on 26 March 1990.
