VH-BPU de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth
(c/n 85639)

Here's a nice Geoff Goodall shot
of a Tiger at Tailem Bend, South Australia, in 1967. I don't see
a glider hitch on this
particular machine, despite the training sailplane in the
background. This air-
craft was built for the RAF
as DE709. From 1952 until 1956 it was one of the Tigers based at
the
Army Air
Corps Center at Middle Wallop, Hampshire where it was operated by the
British Army's
Elementary Flying Training
School. It was one of the last service operated Tiger Moths in
the UK,
and appears to have been exported
directly to Australia in 1956 without having first been placed on
the UK
civil register. It is still currently registered to an
owner in Victoria.
