VH-BAL  de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth                  (c/n  82561/DHA 7)

                               

                                   This Tiger was assembled at Mascot from a fuselage supplied by D.H.s in Hatfield and locally
                                   built wings.  It was delivered to the RAAF in 1939 as A17-7.  Civilianized in 1947, it acquired
                                   a Canadian style canopy somewhere along the way.  The above shot, from the John Oxley Library,
                                   State Library of Queensland collection shows it at Archerfield in the mid 1940s.  Almost forty years
                                   on, it was seen in the nice color shot below by Greg Banfield at Maitland, NSW in April 1977.
                                   It is still (2008) on the register, and still based in NSW.     Ken Tilley took a photo of it, (foot of
                                   the page, sans canopy), at Coffs Harbour in January of 1982 (below).   Into the new millennium it
                                   was still wearing the same livery, although I have not seen any truly contemporary images of it.  .
