c/n 13179
Essendon, 1963 Barry
Maclean collection.
At the end of 1961, to replace their old, worn out
Model 170 Freighters, the then Ansett-ANA
purchased three Mark 31 Bristol 170s
from
the Royal Pakistani Air Force. Notable difference
of the later mark was the dorsal
fin. This aircraft was previously S4416 with the R Pak A F.
In 1964 it passed to the Ansett-MAL (ex
Mandated Airlines) Division and is seen with their
titling at Essendon in May 1964 in the Geoff Goodall collection shot
immediately below. It
was sold
in 1967 to Safe Air Ltd in New Zealand basically for spares. It
was re-registered
ZK-CVK for the ferry flight and is seen as such on the bottom
photograph taken by Peter
Gates at Brisbane just prior to departure. The old lady was
broken up at Woodbourne, N.Z.
during the 1980s.
